Processing Through Portraits
Processing Through Portraits
The years starting in 2020: years like no other. Acceptance and denial, reality and fantasy, and life and death competed fiercely. I created art that helped me make sense of the drastic changes in my life. My "Processing Through Portraits" displays realistic portraits of my close circle of family and friends, and of myself. Figurative images are burned into grain laden plywood. The symbiosis of burned lines of the people and layered grains of wood serve as metaphors for the passage of time and the precariousness of our existence. By using imagery from my personal life, I hope for viewers to recognize their own concerns, struggles, and perhaps successes during the years of the pandemic. I hope that viewers may embrace new appreciation for the resiliency and strength they have developed during these emotional and tragic years.
